Being abducted and in a new weyr

Ranesa stared at the wall. She liked the idea that they needed more candidates, but she wished they had asked instead of abducting her. She would have been quite willing to leave that place that was so full of not that great memories. Memories of death could be seen everywhere she walked. Now, she was here, and what really got on her nerves was that they hadn't asked, they had just abducted her. It seemed like they didn't have much respect for others around here.

Turning from the wall, she decided to see if anyone else was around. Maybe she wouldn't be as mad at the people of this weyr for abducting her if she met other people. It was always useful to know the people around the weyr too.

[Wolfling]

Susitna was actually not really liking this place, now that she was freed from the healer's infirmary. She noticed right away, that it wasn't her home. Susitna had been here for a brief time, and she was mainly on her own, but she had problems. If her dear one was away, then why she kept hearing her? Susitna also, or rather couldn't tell, if they were echos or not, other voices.

She had a quiet moment right now. Perhaps most of the voices would be gone then. She looked like she had a long day, and one with little sleep, and looked like her day will not ceased. She was retreating from her current crazy moment, where she was just about to go and perhaps a bite to eat. What ever happened to that is now gone.

She bumped into someone, not noticing who it was. She knew that she just wanted to get some strange things out of her head. So far, no one here knew about her past, and perhaps thought she was always liked this. Being crazy isn't something she wanted to do, but voices kept her awake, and she couldn't do a thing about it! While she wasn't considering such thing as suicide, but she just wanted peace and quiet!

Susitna didn't barely even tell who she ran into, and continued to her room, which seemed one farthest from the entrance. Susitna went towards there. Perhaps that space was her only relief? She probably wreak her room, if she hear another thing again...

[Hayley]

((Hope you don't mind that I'll throw my candidate in too ))

Sari was bored, having been kicked out of the lower cavern yet again. That stupid drudge! If she had been more careful not to trip up and cover her in meat scraps, then Sari wouldn't have pumbled some sence into her. Either way, it was an easy ticket to a free afternoon and she had heard that the 'newest candidates' were still getting settled. Might be the perfect time to bring them up to date with how things were run here.

Women here were low on the rankings, if any of the female candidates wanted something better then Impression could be their flight to the top. But in the meantime it was eat or be eaten and Sari intended on being on top. Weyrbred was better then anything they had stolen from the Holds. She herself didn't live in the barracks, she had been given to a brownrider but it didn't stop her from sussing out her competition.

The blonde had just been cheaking through the rooms when a girl bumped into her. You would think it would be hard to miss a woman as tall as she was! Was she surrounded by dimglows today?! "Hey!" Sari yelled at the hold girl, "Apologise, NOW!"

[Wolfling]

The yelling stopped Susitna. She turned around, and saw two people there. She looked at the one that yelled at her. Way of her face, it seemed that it was her. Susitna didn't now that she bumped into someone. There were whisperings that she was longing to get rid of. If they get louder, she'll start go try to get them out of her head. Susitna really didn't want to deal with a person like that.

"Why?" Susitna snapped.

She didn't want to show anyone how crazy she is. Everyone called her crazy. Perhaps she was a burden to this place. All she knew, she didn't belong here, much less know what here was. She didn't know of course if the voices in her head were real ones, but they all seemed to remind her of her past, something she never spoken about. Susitna would wait to see what this woman would say.

[Hayley]

"You really don't know you place here, do you?! That attitude will get you killed here!" And if Sari was going to have to be the one to strike that fatal blow then so be it. She wasn't afraid, she had done it before and no one would really care if the girl died. There would be many more they could steal from where she came from.

"Let me tell you this, I don't like you but I'm going to give you some vital imformation. You were stolen from you home to stand on the sands to impress one of Reulith's eggs or those we have stolen from other Weyrs. Till and if you Impress your life means nothing to anyone here only as cavern worker and bed warmer." Despite the candidate shortage it still didn't mean shells if they couldn't adapt to how things were done here. The Weyrwoman herself killed the last Weyrleader no one was safe really.

[Wolfling]

"I was fine where I was. I don't like here, and I frankly, I don't know ever why I would be a Candidate." Susitna snapped. She didn't know her place, but she sure didn't really feel like she wanted to be here. She had heard a few people call her crazy, as she kept speaking herself, like there were someone invisible. But there were often voices inside her head that she couldn't get rid of. No one thought of about it.

Then it seemed to get noisy, and Susitna was trying to get rid of it all. She subtly jerked her head, trying to get it out of her head. No, of course, it wouldn't work, but she always tried that way. She had enough of this! Why couldn't they go away? Susitna mumbled about leaving her alone, but it didn't stop. Her room would be the only place she seemed to able to find a little peace and quiet, and that's all she wanted anyways.

Susitna decided she had enough, and whispered, "Just be quiet!" But no one could tell who she was upset with. She only wanted peace and quiet in her mind! Susitna went to own room, and hopefully they'll leave her alone. She was trying so hard to get the voices out of her mind, that it was getting harder for her. It always reminded her of what happened before she got here....

Sari just laughed at the insane girl as she slunk away. Yes, why was she here if she was mentally unstable? Surely the Rider that had abducted her could have chosen someone more suitable, no dragon would want a rider like that. And the burn scars had been pretty obvious, looks like someone had already dealt with girl in the not so distant past. Well she had done the 'right' thing by issuing a warning, much that she would have wanted to see the girl be tormented and abused. The drama would come later, it was almost guaranteed.

[franny]

"Already trying to start drama?" Ranesa asked the girl that had been talking, even if it didn't sound to friendly, to the other girl. She might be new here, but she had heard that this place caused enough drama without any help. She smiled slightly as she said, "Even I know enough to try and stay out of drama. I have heard this place has enough without any help. Of course, someone does have to cause it. It might also have been less though if this weyr hadn't abducted us. I would have come willingly if they had just asked, I wanted to get away from my old weyr, but no, they decide to abduct instead."

[Hayley]

"Drama? This is just Tokala hospitality! I think I'm going lightly on you all!" Earisa laughed again. This girl talked a bit too much for her liking but she seemed more 'acceptable'. At least she understood they were here to stay and wasn't brooding over it. "what's your name new girl?"

[franny]

"So I got the right impression then on what this place would be like when I was abducted? Well, I guess I will have to learn how to play the games around here since I am here to stay. My name is Ranesa," she said very matter of factly, taking everything in in one fell swoop. There was something to be said for not caring about what weyr you were at. To Ranesa, none of this really mattered, except that she impress a dragon.

[Hayley]

"I'm Sari, and you'll probably be hearing more about me during your stay. Born and bred here so I'm as much a part of the weyr as these stones, if not more." She didn't offer her hand in greeting, the girl hadn't earned that right yet. No weakness could be shown to others, no favors would be given if nothing of value could be reaped in return. She was determinded to Impress, and nothing short of gold. Sari knew she was getting too old by weyr tradition and the past 21 years will not have been indured in vain!

Javonarah had only Impressed the her queen Reulith because her father had let no one else come close. Sure they had all been there but none but Javonarah had been allowed to go near the gold egg. They were there to impress greens, not to let Reulith choose! The Weyrwoman woulld get whats coming to her...

Ranesa gave a half smile as she said, "Part of this crowd then? Wonder if I'll ever fit in. What sort of chance do you give me? Quite curious to see an insiders views on my chances of fitting in." Ranes drawled on some of her words, but not so much as to make the other woman mad. She needed friends if she was going to manage here, and she didn't need enemies. Ranesa then added, "I am not quite sure of this places history, since we don't often hear much about it in the rest of Pern. Could you tell me?"

[Hayley]

Sari gave her a good look over, "We you rate as 'ok' in my books, you'll survive but i warn it can get worse then anything you'll endure at the moment. Once you loose your importance to the weyr it will no longer have any form of protection, most riders are rebles here and it seems they've lost all sence of dignity and duty too."

Women on pern were to be respected, not only as mothers but as the base structure of society as they knew it. Not here though, mothers were praised due to their few numbers but those who gave sons were elevated to a slightly higher social standing. That was the biggest exception.

"Tokala in a brief history is that we were formed under the leadership of Ru'ark, a bronzerider naturally. Anyway, since we had no queen we had to rely on renagade deserters and egg theift to keep out numbers. Having no queen also meant we had no power against the other weyrs, that was till we eventually stole one. The weyrwoman, Javonarah, happens to be Ru'ark's daughter and once her Reulith matured he left. He had no hope of remaining our leader if it meant having to bed your own daughter. Dragons don't like that happening"

[franny]

"Oh, so pretty much you have to fight for your place in this society? You have to make friends with the high up people then? I think I can do that. Of course, it might take a little bit of work," Ranesa said while thinking about the history. She did know one thing though, if she impressed gold, she would try and change some things, if that was possible. Of course, it might be impossible. She would need a plan and help, in case she didn't impress gold.Then she asked Sari, "Do you wish things were different around here?"

[Hayley]

"Course i do, and the person to change it will be me!" Who better to entrust with change then someone who had been here since the beginning. Sari had been one of the first children born within the weyr and things were definately being run into the ground since Jav accended leadership. If it wasn't for the weyrwoman's cautiousness and teh golden queen protecting her Sari would have stabbed a knife into her heart long ago and she was sure many others agreed with her. The time was ripe with a new queen to decide her partner. They wouldn't need to wait to steal another and resort to so much egg theft, Tokala would support herself!
